Pete Doherty has been named as the UK's biggest 'anti icon'.

The Babyshambles frontman topped the list published by men's magazine Arena for his antics over the past year.

Behaviour deemed as being undeserving of icon status includes a series of drugs arrests, failure to perform at gigs and a fine for assaulting a journalist.

Comedian Russell Brand was also tarred with the anti icon bRush. The Apprentice's Syed Ahmed, Conservative party leader David Cameron and sofa-jumping Tom Cruise make up the rest of the top five.

Arena editor William Drew said: "We asked readers to pick those people who have consumed the headlines and defined the last year for all the wrong reasons

"Pete Doherty was voted anti-icon of the year by 38 per cent of the vote thanks to his drug habit which has popularised junkie chic and earned him an almost cult following, despite overwhelmingly mediocre music and less than inspiring live performances."

Peaches Geldof, who was once revered for her fashion sense and outspoken magazine column, has had a turn of fortune of late in the public eye, and was the only female to make it into the top ten.
