Pete Doherty - Pete Doherty Jailed For Six Months
British rocker Pete Doherty was jailed for six months on Friday (20May11) for possessing cocaine.
The former Libertines frontman has been battling addictions to heroin and crack cocaine for more than seven years and has notched up a string of convictions for drug offences.
In January last year (10) he was arrested following the death of his close pal Robyn Whitehead, and during a search of the London apartment where the tragedy occurred, cops found film footage which showed Doherty smoking crack. The footage was shot just two days before Whitehead's death.
Doherty was subsequently charged with cocaine possession and pleaded guilty last month (Apr11).
Jailing him during a hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London on Friday, Judge David Radford told the rocker, "You have an appalling record of committing offences of the kind for which you fall to be sentenced today."
Doherty's lawyer Peter Ratliff told the hearing, "Any claim that this defendant somehow glamorises drug use is misguided. He takes no pleasure in his addiction."
The rocker was in the midst of a U.K. tour but all remaining dates are now due to be scrapped.
The jail sentence came just hours after Doherty confessed the death of Whitehead has left him a "broken" man.
Doherty's pal Peter Wolfe, who was seen in the film footage passing the crack pipe to Whitehead, pleaded guilty to supplying cocaine and was jailed for a year.
