Rocker Pete Townshend is sick with nerves ahead of the publication of his memoirs, fearing the book is so honest it will offend some of his pals.

The Who guitarist's long-awaited life story, Who I Am, is released later this month (Oct12) and the star tried to be as frank as possible when penning the tome.

He admits he is worried some of his loved ones and closest friends will be angry about sections of the book, but he's adamant it was important to be open about events in his life, even if the subject of his anecdotes has since passed away.

Townshend tells British newspaper The Sun, "I feel sick. It's very strange. If you've run a marathon, you expect to feel 'Yay!', but I feel depleted and concerned. I don't want somebody to be hurt through what I've written but, on the other hand, I want it to be true.

"I'm a little bit harder on people if they're dead than alive but I feel as if I'm waiting for responses. I'm very aware that even if I write about (late The Who drummer) Keith Moon - the good, the bad and the indifferent - he's got a troubled daughter and I don't want her to feel bad."
