Sci-fi saga Doctor Who is set to hit cinema screens for the first time in 40 years.

The BBC were so astounded by the response to the latest television series, they have confirmed a big-screen extravaganza is being planned.

Former Doctor Who star PAUL McGANN says, "I think the fans were starved for some new material and were bored of the repeats.

"The new series came at exactly the right time. I think a cinema version could do very well."

The futuristic phenomenon was last seen in cinemas in 1963, with HAMMER HORROR star Peter Cushing in the title role.
