Peter Jackson said Wednesday that he expects to make a decision soon about whether he will direct The Hobbit , a two-part prequel to The Lord Of The Rings . In an interview with New Zealand's Dominion Post , Jackson said that Warner Bros. is "making progress untangling the Mgm situation, so we should have certainty with The Hobbit sometime soon." MGM, which owns the rights to The Hobbit , is currently paralyzed by a heavy debt load and complicated negotiations over the sale of its assets. It has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to finance the two prequels, with Jackson on board to produce and possibly direct. But Jackson is also committed to directing the sequel to Steven Spielberg's upcoming Tintin The Secret of the Unicorn. Jackson also revealed that he would like to make a film about the ill-fated battle of Gallipoli for release in 2015, the 100th anniversary of the historic event. If a deal can be finalized, he said, he would be able to map out a five-year plan for his production company "that will keep many people very busy."
