Phil Anselmo was banned from attending the funeral of his former Pantera bandmate 'DIMEBAG' DARRELL ABBOTT, but he completely accepts it.

Stars present at the memorial service last Tuesday (14DEC04) included former Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell and members of Slipknot and Fear Factory, but Anselmo did not attend at the request of Dimebag's family.

He told MTV, "I wish to God I could've gone to his funeral, but I have to respect his family's wishes, and they do not want me there. I believe I belong there, but I understand completely, I'm so sorry.

"I never got a chance to say goodbye in the right way and it kills me."

Two weeks before Abbot's tragic death, Anselmo gave an interview to music magazine METAL HAMMER, saying he deserved to be "severely beaten" for splitting up Pantera.
