JAMES BOND star Pierce Brosnan has dismissed fellow Irish actor COLIN FARRELL as a suitable new 007.

Brosnan has reportedly hung up the secret agent's trademark tuxedo for the last time, and has touted a number of actors as potential replacements - including Clive Owen and Colin Salmon.

But he insists Hollywood hellraiser Farrell wouldn't make an appropriate Bond.

The actor told British television show THIS MORNING last week (ends30APR04), "Colin? No. I think he's a great actor, but I don't think he's quite right for Bond."

British bookmakers LADBROKES have however given Farrell two-to-one odds of landing the Bond role. A spokesman explains, "He has the right image for Bond and a way with the ladies."
