Piers Morgan, the British former tabloid journalist turned American television star, is under increasing pressure to return to the UK in order to testify over claims of phone hacking. Morgan, who edited the Daily Mirror newspaper from 1995 to 2004, has denied any knowledge of hacking voicemail messages - something challenged by certain high profile individuals.
According to the New York Times, lawyer Mark Lewis claims a new set of lawsuits will soon be filed against Trinity Mirror Group, which owns Morgan's former newspaper. The suits could allege that publications other than the News of the World also used phone hacking as a means of generating celebrity stories. Morgan's involvement comes after Paul McCartney's ex-wife Heather Mills claimed a senior Mirror Group journalist admitted to her they had hacked her phone. However, a spokesman for the CNN presenter has reiterated Morgan's stance on the matter, saying, "Piers is not going to answer any more questions at this time, as he feels he has said what he has needed to". In a previous statement, the presenter had stated, "I have never hacked a phone, told anyone to hack a phone, nor to my knowledge published any story obtained from the hacking of a phone".
In a somewhat tongue-in-cheek response to the claims, Piers Morgan told his 1 million Twitter followers, "So heart-warming that everyone in UK's missing me so much they want me to come home".

Piers is a total wanker in his new job for CNN. His interviews set a new standard for mediocracy. If Larry King threw soft balls, Morgan's pitches never even make it to the plate. He is painfully awkward, mind numbingly boring, and seems totally unable to either develop rapport with his subjects or to inspire them. If he does not return it can only be because he knows he had committed crimes which might result in his arrest upon return to the UK.

I doubt if any CNN watchers in the US will miss Morgan if he returns to the UK, He has been awful as an interviewer. Watching paint dry is exhilarating compared to one of his guest interviews.
