Pirates Of The Caribbean: DEAD MAN'S CHEST has smashed Disney's box office records by giving the film company its biggest ever first day opening in the UK on Thursday (06JUL06). Advance ticket sales of the pirate sequel starring Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley topped the GBP1 million ($1.8 million) mark and, overall, the movie made a massive GBP2.3 million ($4.1 million) on its opening day. The impressive response form British audiences means the film is likely to perform just as well in the US where some believe it will make over $100 million (GBP54 million) in its first three days. PAUL DERGARABEDIAN, president of entertainment research company Exhibitor Relations says, "It just has everything going for it to give it one of those openings that everyone is going to talk about." A third movie is already in the pipeline starring rocker Keith Richards in a cameo role as the father of CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW, played by Depp.
