Ratatouille Tops UK Box Officeby Contributor | 17 October 2007
Disney/Pixar's newest animated classic Ratatouille has soared to the top of the UK box office after its opening weekend.
The amiable tale of a haute cuisine-obsessed rat who lands an unlikely job in a top Parisian restaurant, it took a massive £4.4 million in its first three days, knocking Ben Stiller's romcom The Heartbreak Kid into third place.
Written and directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles), Ratatouille opened on 503 screens nationwide, beating other new release Resident Evil: Extinction to the top spot.
The Milla Jovovich-starring zombie thriller took £931,991 on 311 screens, with last week's top four all falling two places in the box office charts.
Jamie Foxx action flick The Kingdom fell to fourth, Simon Pegg's comedy Run Fatboy, Run continued to perform impressively with a £470,891 gross and Joe Wright's adaptation of Ian McEwan's bestselling novel Atonement finished in sixth position in its sixth week on release.
Two Bollywood releases made the top ten in their first week, with thriller Bhool Bhulaivaa in at seven and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag entering the chart in eighth position, with both pulling in laudable numbers, despite opening on only 45 screens.
Kiwi comedy horror Black Sheep entered at number nine, while the Nicole Kidman/Daniel Craig sci-fi movie The Invasion rounded off the top ten.
