Alt-j Announce New UK Tour For May 2013
Following on from the rapid sell-out of both their headline Autumn UK tour and two dates at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in January, Alt-J have announced a new UK tour for May 2013 seeing them play their biggest headline show to date at London's O2 Academy Brixton on 16th May, 2012 (see below for full details). Tickets for the tour go on general sale from 9am on Friday 7th September
Alt-J have also recently announced their next single 'Something Good' will be released on 1 October, 2012 through Infectious Music. The track is the latest release from their stunning debut album 'An Awesome Wave', which crash landed into the Top 20 in June whilst peaking at #3 on iTunes, making it one of the biggest debuts of the year so far.
'Something Good', with its soaring melodies, stuttering percussion and meandering piano, has long been one of the fans and critics favourites from 'An Awesome Wave'. The song uses the metaphor of a matador and a bull to talk about the need for distraction when escaping from a relationship. Joe Newman (guitarist/vocalist) says: "In the song, the bull ends up killing the matador and that represents the death of your clinging to a particular person. You've gone out, you've had a really good time and realised you don't need that person."
This summer Alt-J have been in high demand playing a plethora of UK and international festivals including T in the Park, Latitude, Green Man, Bestival, Ibiza & Mallorca Rocks and Reading and Leeds, which saw them pack out the Festival Republic Stage leading The Guardian to call Alt-J "Friday's clearest vision of rock future." Alt-J are now set to embark on a huge North America tour through September and October before returning for their Autumn UK dates.
'An Awesome Wave' was released on May 28th through Infectious Music to widespread acclaim that saw it touted as the "hottest debut album" by NME, hailed as "exhilarating and emotive" by Q magazine, as well as huge radio support.
