Brooklyn Hip-hop Festival 2013 Launches Program To Support Small Businesses

Hip-Hop is about more than just music. Always has been and now more than ever. Hip-Hop culture drives fashion, politics, sports and has its fingerprints on virtually every aspect of popular culture. At our core Brooklyn Bodega is a Hip-Hop advocacy group. We exist to support Hip-Hop, in all its wonderful facets..

The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival (BHF) is like our national convention. We gather each year to network, trade stories and see who our new leaders will be. On the creative side we have been picking winners since 2005 when we featured a trio from North Carolina in their first big New York City gig. That group, Little Brother, went on to do quite well for themselves to put it mildly. In 2006, we hosted a skateboarding bespectacled MC from Chicago named Lupe Fiasco, Curren$y, and current wunderkind Kendrick Lamar are just the latest in a long line of artists we helped get rolling.

As much as we do for artists we want to do the same for the Hip-Hop businessmen out there. The brave (some say crazy souls) who quit their day jobs to follow their passions. Put all their savings into that design that woke them up at 3 in the morning. The wives, girlfriends, husbands and boyfriends who put up with more than anyone could ask to support their loved ones.

To that end, we are happy to be launching our Small Business Support Program aka "Shine Like A Fresh 50 Cent Piece" or more simply "SSS". SSS is designed to help startups and small businesses maximize their execution at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival.

Festival Founder and Executive Director Wes Jackson added, "As one of those crazy people who sunk all their savings into their dream I understand how valuable every dollar is to a small business. A few hundred dollars can throw off your cash flow and start an avalanche of problems that can be hard to recover from. Not only do we want to support our fellow Hip-Hop businessmen but we realize our success is tethered to theirs. The more of us who succeed in this fishbowl of Brooklyn and moreover Hip-Hop, the better it is for all of us."

Businesses interested in the SSS program can apply by contacting Eva Marie Arena, our Vendor Relationship Manager. Once selected Eva and her team will craft a combination of on site activation, marketing, branding and promotion that will jive with their own goals. A wise use of precious funds and a better experience for our Festival goers. What could be better?
