Kirsty Mcgee Announces New Single 'Sandman' Released Apr 1st 2013

Emerging from the underground jazz/folk/americana scene, KIRSTY McGEE has drawn avid fans from around the world with her rich, dark chanson style, influenced by a deep love for the bygone eras of beat jazz, hobo-culture and the crackle of old vinyl. With ten years of touring and six albums to date, her catalogue deftly illustrates the craft of an artist with a powerful resonance but delicate delivery. Hers are a stunning voice and an open heart, which have a style that frames the brittleness of her lyrics perfectly.

Recognition for Kirsty's talent has earned BBC Radio daytime playlistings and live sessions for Radio's 2 and 4, BBC Folk Award nominations and an Independent Music Award for Best Live Album in 2011 - all helping to contribute to a growing and appreciative audience. Her songs have been covered by the likes of KARINE POLWART, ARCHIE FISHER, MIRANDA SYKES (whose album 'Bliss' takes its name from one of McGee's songs) and ANNIE GRACE. Kirsty has shared the studio with musicians and producers such as JOHN WOOD (Nick Drake), NEILL MACCOLL, BOO HEWERDINE and BEN NICHOLS (Seth Lakeman).

McGee's new single SANDMAN is taken from the upcoming film thriller by DANNY BOYLE, TRANCE (27/03/2013), starring James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel. The song originally featured on Kirsty's KANSAS SESSIONS album (Hobopop Recordings, 2008). The B-side, SETTING OF THE SUN is from the richly praised album CONTRABAND, released in November 2012. Produced in a year during which Kirsty almost gave up music entirely, CONTRABAND is an intimate collection of songs that are her rawest and bravest recordings to date. Guest appearances from acclaimed songwriters include DANNY SCHMIDT, CARRIE ELKIN, MIKE WEST, MYSHKIN, JOSEF (Mr Scruff), INGE THOMSON (Bonnie Prince Billie, Lau) and harmonica player CLIVE MELLOR (Richard Hawley).
