Matt Harding Announces New Album 'Motifs' Out Feb 24th 2014

Matt Harding has taken his time, five years in fact, before following his acclaimed previous releases (via Moshi-Moshi, Heavenly and his own Reluctancy label) with this, his fifth album'motifs'. Thirteen musically cinematic pieces, uncomplicated, uncluttered - eight of them no longer than 3 minutes and influenced by diverse artists such as Nina Simone and Moondog.

He has been inolved in a number of creative projects in the past, from a remix for Aurevoir Simone's album 'Reverse Migration' ('Night Majestic' - Matt Harding mix), to featuring on the soundtrack of Mexican actor Gabriel Garcia Bernal's first film 'I'm With Lucy'. From a show at the Kinetica Gallery in London with tracks written for the video artist Jordan Bedding, to writing the score for a Catalan documentary about author Josep de Sagarra.

Originally from Northampton but now residing in London, Matt learned to play music in his early twenties using a 4track. After early rudimentary gigs at open-mic nights with his spoken-word poet flatmate and having eventually conquered a fear of playing live, he has since performed in New York, London and Berlin. To date, shows haven't included songs from his records. He says; 'my sets were always acoustic solo and comprised of material not from my albums, a song that i used to play regularly was called 'reluctancy', that is what i've named my own label for self releases now. they were pretty intimate and nervy, for me at least...

Plans for 'motifs' however, include live peformances that this time, may indeed include album tracks, plus a video release made by different artists to go alongside each song. A few collaborations are in the pipeline also, along with work on spoken word theatrical pieces and more film score and soundtrack composing. Matt says; 'i have made song versions of some of my favourite films, mainly for listening to on the tube when i wasn't in the mood for listening to music. the first ones were for clockwork orange and don't look now.  i still make them now'
