Signed Early Photo Of The Rolling Stones Goes Under The Hammer In Barnard Castle

A signed vintage photograph of one of the biggest rock bands of all time, The Rolling Stones, is to be auctioned by Addisons of Barnard Castle, County Durham on Thursday 15 May.

Five members of The Rolling Stones are pictured seated on the grass in Finsbury Park, London, on 9 September 1964 - just two years after the band's formation and the same year that they released their debut album The Rolling Stones, which became one of 1964's biggest sellers in the UK, staying at Number 1 for 12 weeks.

The postcard photograph (lot 285) bears five of the band members' signatures in blue and black ink and is inscribed in biro verso with the location and date. It carries a price estimate of £300 - £400 and is being sold with an ensign midget, model 22 pocket camera.

"The Rolling Stones' musical popularity has lasted more than 50 years and the band has a huge and loyal following," said Richard Edwards, Senior Auctioneer and Valuer at Addisons. "What makes this photo particularly interesting is that it shows them at the very start of their career. With the ease of internet bidding, this item is accessible to fans and collectors all over the world."

In the same sale is lot 134, a photograph album containing a collection of autographed photographs and postcards of film stars, including Lucille Ball, Flora Robson, Spencer Tracy and Clark Gable. It carries a price estimate of £25 - £35.

The Antiques and Interiors Sale starts at 10.00am on Thursday 15 May and bidding can be made in person, online or via the telephone. The contents of the sale can be viewed online at www.addisons-auctioneers.co.uk Viewing at the saleroom is on Wednesday 14 May until 7pm and on the day itself from 8.00am until the start of the sale.
