St Paul And The Broken Bones Announce New Single 'Call Me' Plus September 2014 Electric Ballroom Headline Show

In the wake of a sold out tour throughout the UK and Europe, a Rough Trade album of the Week and iTunes Single of The Week, St Paul & The Broken Bones announce the release of new single 'Call Me' on July 7th 2014.

Having received a rapturous response from audiences across the UK and an amazing reaction to their live session with Jo Whliey on Radio 2, the band will return to the UK in September to play a headline date at The Electric Ballroom in Camden with more dates to be announced.

The resplendent sextet from Birmingham, Alabama have been described as "the band to pick up where soul music left off". Produced by Ben Tanner of Alabama Shakes and recorded and mixed in the storied R&B mecca of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, their sound harks back to the region's classic soul roots. One of the first signings to the label founded by Ben Tanner of Alabama Shakes and John Paul White of The Civil Wars, St Paul and The Broken Bones have been grabbing the headlines across the US. April saw them climbing to the top 5 in the US iTunes album chart and rapidly build a reputation as one of the must see live acts across the US.

Front man Paul Janeway's handle "St. Paul" is a wry allusion to the vocalist's grounding in the church. Like many a legendary soul singer, Janeway was raised on the gospel side, in a non-denominational, Pentecostal-leaning local church. Virtually no non-religious music could be heard in his devout household and he was groomed to be a preacher until he was 18 years old.

Though Paul's time in the church provides a key influence on the band's sound, their love of classic soul and operatic gospel waltzes in harmony with influences of gritty showmen such as Tom Waits and Nick Cave.

Though the band has only been together for a couple of years they've been relentlessly touring the states for the past year. The ingenious six-piece live experience cannot fail to uplift, entrance, and bring joy to the life of all who embrace them, with Janeway's extroverted performing style enrapturing his audiences. This effect seems to have taken hold in the UK and due to popular demand they will be gracing our shores again in September for a string of dates.

'Call Me' was recently Jo Whiley's track of the week on her Radio 2 show, and Huey Morgan's 'Meat' track on his 6 music show. While across the pond it is no. 7 on Last FM's chart, and no. 10 on the Neilson BDS Radio Chart and climbing.

LIVE DATE

ELECTRIC BALLROOM  SEPTEMBER 3rd 2014
