Steel Pulse Releases 'Put Your Hoodies On [4 Trayvon]' Plus August 2013 Tour Dates
Grammy-winning reggae band Steel Pulse has released Put Your Hoodies On [4 Trayvon], a song dedicated to Trayvon Martin. Composed by lead singer David "Dread" Hinds, the song was released during the trial of George Zimmerman and is available as a free download.
"The song is a plea for justice," says Hinds. "Steel Pulse has been campaigning and watching this case since February 26th 2012. The fact is that an innocent teenager is dead, shot by a man who was playing vigilante - pursuing the teenager around the neighborhood despite being advised against it by the authorities. This could well end up as the day justice was killed once again in a Jim Crow. We sensed the result but despite the outcome of the trial, the truth remains the truth, and the ghost of justice will haunt this town of Sanford, Florida - forever."
For over 38 years, Grammy-winning reggae band Steel Pulse has won the hearts and minds of audiences all over the world with their commitment to love and justice through music. Bob Marley numbered Steel Pulse among his favorite reggae bands when the group had just come up out of Birmingham in 1975. Steel Pulse performed at Bill Clinton's inaugural celebration, the first reggae band to appear at such an event. The band is currently working on a new album and DVD.
