Young Aviators Announce Debut Album 'Self Help' Released Oct 7th 2013

The label that brought you the first releases from Biffy Clyro, Belle and Sebastian, Snow Patrol, The Pastels, King Creosote and Teenage Fanclub are proud to announce the debut album from Young Aviators.
 
Electric Honey, the in-house record label at Stow College, has long been associated with quality acts across various genres and now presents Self Help - the first full-length from the young Glasgow based, Irish garage-pop trio Young Aviators. Known for their hugely catchy fuzzed-out riffs, massive melodies and tongue-in-cheek observations, their debut is a sonic rush that recalls the best of guitar pop from throughout the ages.
 
With nods to the classics from The Kings and Zombies, the joyous punk of Buzzcocks and The Undertones, filtered through a garage-rock lens, the debut album from Young Aviators never loses sight of the melodies. Despite the energy and brightness present throughout the record,Self Help deals with issues that are affecting thousands of Britain's young people, with sardonic songs about failure, rejection and stagnation, through to the uncertain future many are facing. The songs on their debut album Self Help are written from the heart and born out of the post-graduate experience of debt and poverty.
 
'A Love To Change Your Ways' has all the brilliantly sarcastic yearning of Arctic Monkeys' earlier narratives - while 'Forward Thinking' is a clattering slice of sardonic rock designed to test the strength of dancefloors, and features the key line "Are you happy, are you free / In the service industry?". It's a song written while in the doldrums, but with its eyes firmly fixed on a better future.
 
"I'm from a working class family and grew used to having no money," says singer and guitarist Declan McKay. "As students we actually had money - even if it wasn't our money - but once that was over we were suddenly broke graduates in a band, looking for jobs. We had literally no money and so have worked in the service industry on and off for years. It can really get you down, especially if you're creative or suffer from anxiety or you watch the news and see that things are getting even worse. So our entire debut is about being stuck in the doldrums."
 
But while Young Aviators are a product of recession Britain, lines like "Heaven help me, heaven help me / Get a Jaguar, get a Bentley" ('Rejection Letter') show that their music bubbles and fizzes with barbed wit and bruised-but-unbroken resolve.

Young Aviators recorded Self Help in Chem19 studios in Glasgow in early 2013, with producer Jamie Savage (whose brother and studio owner Paul Savage formed The Delgados and established the influential Chemikal Underground label).
 
Self Help is released through Electric Honey on October 7th.
