Overseas, Robin Hood, titled in French Robin des Bois , meaning Robin of the Woods, found itself out of them -- the woods, that is -- after the movie prevailed as the top film of the weekend for the second week in a row. While if opened softly in North America -- it took in just $18.7 million in its second weekend domestically -- it brought in $30 million abroad (58 countries) to up its foreign gross to $125 million. All films saw mediocre results overseas, which Paramount attributed to a heat wave in parts of Western Europe. The ticket sales slump affected the debut of Jerry Bruckheimer's videogame-based Prince of Persia The Sands of Time , the latest film to debut abroad before its U.S. premiere in order to put as much space between itself and the World Cup championship as it possibly can. The movie, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, earned $18 million from 19 countries. Shrek Forever After also made its overseas bow, collecting $26 million from 9 countries.
