British royal Queen Elizabeth II is snubbing her son Prince Charles' wedding to Camilla Parker Bowles on Friday (08APR05) because her position as head of the Church of England precludes her from attending a civil ceremony.

If she attended the marriage at Windsor, England's Guildhall the Queen fears she would send out a strong message to her subjects which could damage the Church - but she will be present at the subsequent blessing at Windsor Castle to be conducted by DR ROWAN WILLIAMS, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

A royal insider says, "She feels she has to put her role with the Church before her role as a mother.

"She takes her position as Supreme Governor of the Church of England incredibly seriously. She believes her position simply does not allow her to be there."

Prince Charles and Parker Bowles have no choice but to wed in a civil ceremony because they have both been divorced.
