Quentin Tarantino's new movie Kill Bill has proved so popular with American audiences, it's at the top of the US box office charts after its first weekend (10-12OCT03) on release.

The maverick director's ultraviolent film took $22.4 million (GBP14 million), beating Jack Black comedy The School of Rock, which bagged $15 million (GBP9.5 million).

In third place, taking $13 million (GBP8.1 million), came the GEORGE CLOONEY and CATHERINE ZETA-JONES starring movie Intolerable Cruelty, directed by cult favourites THE Coen Brothers.
