Rachel Weisz wanted to play her 'Oz: The Great and Powerful' character ''like Bette Davis''.

The 42-year-old star portrays scheming beauty Evanora in the prequel of 1939 movie 'The Wizard of Oz', and she took inspiration from some of the previous parts played by the late legendary actress, who often portrayed unsympathetic characters.

She said: ''It was a wonderful part. Evanora is so wicked, she's positively camp. I was determined to play her like Bette Davis and really ratchet up the melodrama.''

Rachel - who is married to James Bond star Daniel Craig - had ''tremendous fun'' watching her character ''destroy'' Michelle Williams' alter-ego, Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, in 'Oz: The Great and Powerful' particularly as the pair are great friends off-screen.

She explained: ''In real life, Michelle is a great friend, funny and ironic and very clever, and our kids play together, so it was tremendous fun to demonstrate such pleasure as I tried to destroy her.''

And Rachel admitted some of the movie was ''very easy'' to make because she simply had to daydream.

She added: ''I'd like to say that imagining there are 100,000 winged baboons flying towards you is incredibly hard, but it's actually very easy. I earn a living daydreaming, how great is that?''
