Could Nicki Minaj really be the next American Idol judge? A report from US Magazine yesterday (August 20, 2012) certainly seems to suggest that a deal is pretty much in the bag for the 'Pound the Alarm' singer and rapper to take a seat on one of America's biggest TV talent shows. It might seem like a sideways step for Minaj, whose career is in full swing right now, with the recent release of 'Pink Friday - Roman Reloaded' but equally, if she plays her cards right and wins the audience over, it could well be a lucrative way of gaining even more exposure for her music.

A source told US Weekly "I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more things to sign off on but it is happening." A second source told them that she is "100% confirmed to judge American Idol." Nicki's representatives had no comment on the matter but if she does take the role, she'll be working alongside the five time Grammy Award winner and renowned diva Mariah Carey, on the judging panel.

Reports suggest that long-time judge Randy Jackson is being moved into a "mentoring" role, which will no doubt leave producers keen to place another male on the judging panel. So far, Nick Jonas seems to be the favourite to take that place. With Minaj, Jonas and Carey all working side by side, the Fox network will surely be onto a winner when it comes to drawing in viewers.
