Reese Witherspoon's animated film MONSTERS VS. ALIENS has continued its fine form at the box office - shooting to the top of the U.K. cinema charts with weekend takings of $6.3 million (£4.3 million).
The movie, in which the Oscar winner voices a giant woman, had already grabbed the number spot in both the international and U.S. box office charts.
And now it has soared to number one in Britain - ahead of Richard Curtis' comedy The Boat That Rocked, which garnered $2.6 million (£1.8 million) in its debut week.
Nicolas Cage's sci-fi thriller Knowing, about a boy who discovers a cryptic premonition, dropped from number one to number three in the charts, with takings of $1.4 million (£968,664).
Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson's family drama Marley and Me fetched $1.2 million (£822,367) to take fourth spot, while The Haunting In Connecticut rounded out the top five with takings of $1.1 million (£753,130).
