Rapper Remy Ma's release from prison has been delayed following an incident behind bars last week (begs21Jul14).

The Lean Back hitmaker, real name Reminisce Smith, was jailed for eight years in May, 2008 after she was found guilty of shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the abdomen during an altercation in July, 2007.

Remy Ma, who was charged with assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion, maintained her innocence throughout the trial and twice attempted to appeal the conviction.

The 34 year old was scheduled for an early release on Thursday (31Jul14), after serving six years in jail, but an official at the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision explains she will have to stay at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in New York for another week because of a phone violation on 21 July (14).

Ironically, the date coincides with a phone interview she conducted with New York radio DJ Angie Martinez, during which she revealed she is planning to chronicle her career comeback in a new reality show following her release.

Remy Ma is now expected to walk free next week (begs04Aug14).
