Airline tycoon and music mogul SIR Richard Branson has been awarded the prestigious German Media Prize, previously handed to former U.S. president Bill Clinton and the Dalai Lama
The British billionaire has been invited to receive the prize on 24 January (11), when German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle will make a speech in his honour.
Branson, who co-founded Virgin Records in 1972, has since become world-renowned for his Virgin brand, which now encompasses record shops, digital magazines an airline and even Virgin Galactic, which aims to offer commercial space travel by 2012.
Previous winners of the award also include former German leaders Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schroeder, former South African leader Nelson Mandela, Queen Rania of Jordan, U.S. tennis star Andre Agassi and his wife Steffi Graf and Angela Merkel, the current German chancellor.
