The family of late acting legend Richard Burton are furious his name has been omitted from a new poll of Britain's best actors.

The poll, conducted for British TV network Five and voted for by judges including SIR Richard Attenborough's son Michael, placed SIR Anthony Hopkins at number one and also recognised the work of Peter Sellers, Cary Grant, SIR Laurence Olivier, SIR Alec Guinness, SIR Ian McKellen, Charles Laughton, Daniel Day-Lewis and Kenneth Branagh.

Burton's niece SIAN OWEN is particularly incensed Branagh was picked above the Welsh star - who was nominated for a record seven Academy Awards without ever winning one.

She says, "How can they put Kenneth Branagh in instead of him.

"Richard's stage performances of Hamlet, HENRY V and other classics won rave reviews the world over. And he performed brilliantly for years."
