CHICAGO star Richard Gere has a unique approach toward erasing the plight of Tibet - building a world-class spa there.

The devout Buddhist envisions SPA TIBET, where Tibetans would build monasteries, hot baths and meditation rooms - and the Dalai Lama would be allowed to move back into his place.

The screen star hopes the result would be an influx of Westerners and Chinese to the new spiritual destination, filling Communist coffers and eventually easing the economic drain that China perceives Tibet to be.

Gere already has the backing of high lama of Tibet and India - but China has yet to approve.
