British comedian Ricky Gervais has declared he would rather be made a member of the Mafia than be knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

The OFFICE star doubts he'll ever be knighted, but he wouldn't quite know what to make of it all if the honour was ever offered to him.

He says, "I don't think I'll be knighted. I'm not slagging it, but I don't know what it means. If I can carry a sword legally and ride a horse through London, no thanks.

"If I can kill anyone but a baron, and ride a horse, then OK. That might be useful one day. But instead of 'Sir', I'd want a Mafia title. Don Gervaise. That's what I want."
