British comedian Ricky Gervais is adamant he has not been approached to host the next Oscars ceremony and would "almost certainly say no" if he was offered the job.

The Office star, who has hosted the Golden Globes twice, recently spoke out about the prestigious presenting gig ahead of the 2014 Academy Awards show, insisting the role would be "very temping", adding, "I would be incredibly flattered (to be asked) and whatever you think of those sort of things, it would be a thrill and an honour to be asked."

However, Gervais is adamant his comments have been taken out of context and he has now spoken out to dismiss reports suggesting he on the verge of accepting the job.

In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "I am not hosting The Oscars. I haven't even been asked and I would almost certainly say no. I only said it's always flattering to be asked."
