JAY-Z has called on the public and the media to support Rihanna as she recovers from an alleged beating at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
The music mogul has kept his silence about the incident, which sent his protege to hospital in Los Angeles a week ago (08Feb09), but now he wants everyone to be compassionate and considerate when it comes to the young Umbrella hitmaker.
Jay-Z, who discovered Rihanna in 2004, initially refused to be drawn into commenting about the Brown/Rihanna fracas, telling HollyScoop.com, "It's not a soundbite, this is a real situation. You have to have compassion for others. Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that."
But he added, "I just think we should all support her. She's going through a tough time. You have to realise she's a young girl, as well. She's very young."
Both Brown and Rihanna have gone into hiding since the incident, which prompted the former lovers to cancel their appearances at last week's (08Feb09) Grammy Awards.
Brown faces jail time after being charged with making criminal threats.
