Happy Birthday Ringo! - Comments and Message Board

Actually, Ringo's 2nd hospitalization was for tuberculosis. There was a stigma attached to TB at the time (you had to live in squalor to get it, it was assumed), so it was said he had pleurisy. At last count, Ringo's life has been spared six times: those two very serious childhood diseases; a fire at his L.A. home; emergency surgery for a perforated intestine; a roll-over accident from which he and Barbara Bach walked away; and alcoholism so serious he was having blackouts. It was, appropriately, love (for Barbara) that saved him, and he's been the poster-boy for a healthy lifestyle for the last 22 years. Peace and love, Ringo -- and many happy returns.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RINGO. My son Mario loves the Beatles since he is a child. He is 28 years old and I am writing this in his behalf. Mario suffered was attacked in another country 6 years ago and he is quadraplejic now. He was in comma for 6 months and it is a miracle he is alive. The only thing that we know he really likes is all the music of the Beatles and we play it all the time and he sings all the songs along. He had a pet that he named Ringo in your honor and then the son of Ringo was named George. Mario lived in London when he went to college there and the only thing that keeps him happy is hearing the Beatles songs over and over. HAPPY BIRTHDAY from us. We LOVE YOU RINGO.

There was a bit in the above story--the one on this page--with John Lennon saying Ringo supposedly wasn't the best drummer? I've read scads of Beatles books and the quote's always been attributed to Paul. Maybe I'm wrong (personally, I wish no one had ever said it, Ringo's the heartbeat and emotional glue that brings wonderful things together.) "Magical Mystery Tours," by Tony Bramwell, backs up Ringo and John's amity saying that while John might sometimes take verbal or emotional jabs at anyone else, he really respected Ringo, the book said he didn't do the same to Ringo at all (which sounds like a bit of a sweeping generalization, even loving them all as I do, everyone's human, right?) I'm just so glad all 4 men existed and hold Ringo's exemplary generous spirit and bon vivant character (in the best possible use of the term) as a quality I try to embody and feel lucky to find in others : )The world has a real treasure in Ringo Starr. May he always have the peace and love he perpetuates, a million times over, esp. as the love, peace and respect of his fans resonates back to him.Happy Birthday, Ringo! Thank you for being all that you are♥
