Ringo Starr is embracing turning 70 on Wednesday (07Jul10) - because he still feels like a 24 year old.
The former Beatle will celebrate his big day with a private party and All Starr Band concert in New York City, insisting that rock 'n' roll helps him stay young.
He tells the New York Times, "As far as I'm concerned, in my head, I'm 24. That's just how it is. The number, yeah, it's high. But I just felt I've got to celebrate it. I'm on my feet and I'm doing what I love to do, and I'm in a profession, as a musician, where we can go on for as long as we can go on. I'm not hiding from it, you know."
But the drummer admits he used to think even 40 was a very old age when the Beatles were first breaking into the big time: "When I was 22, actually, I remember this so well, and I was playing, and there was another band, and these people in that other band were 40, and I was saying, 'My God, you're still doing it?'
"Now I'm way past 40 (and) my new hero is B. B. King. I have a great line: 'B. B. is still playing, even though he is sitting down now. But hey, I'm sitting down already.' You've just got to get on with it. I'd like to be out there pretending I'm only 55, but I'm not."

Tuesday - July 6, 2010I just wanted to wish Ringo a very "Happy Birthday" tomorrow. Mine is July 19th. I love Ringo, and watched him over the years. I hope he is happy and has a wonderful birthday in New York tomorrow. If you feel young at 70, that's pretty good. You are only as old as you feel. Sometimes I do not feel my age either. If I could turn back time, I would be 17, so I could see the Beatles again at Candlestic Park, Aug. 29,1966. It was absolutely the best concert I ever experienced in my life. And the memory still remains as vivid in my mind as it was then. I never saw so many crazy crazy fans. Best Wishes,rosiegee39@yahoo.com

Happy Birthday, Ringo, you are the greatest! I was one of millions who saw you perform with The Beatles that cold Sunday night in February on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and from that moment I was a "Beatlemaniac." I play the drums because of you Ringo and you are my hero. Now that I'm 55 and still playing drums, I can relate to your comment about still being 24 in your heart and your head. The body may age but the spirit still soars and the mind is as young as you allow yourself to be. Peace and Love, Ringo, I'll be saying that tomorrow in your honor at noon. Thanks for all the great music and fabulous memories, Ringo!

Happy Birthday, Ringo! What a wonderful attitude to have at turning 70! I will be turning 60 in a few more years & I will try my best to follow your example. As millions of others across the U.S. watched Ed Sullivan Show that Sunday night, I fell in love with The Beatles! No group before or since comes close in comparison; you blokes remain head & shoulders above the rest. Listening to your early music, it's almost impossible to believe just how young you were!As the years passed, I grew to understand that The Beatles were made from four, separate, individual artists who combined their unique talents & gifts. Your music matured, as did we,your fans, Ringo, your music continues to evolve, which is why we love you still.Congratulations on successfully surviving until the wise, young age of 70, Mr. Starkey! See ya at 80!Diane
