Hollywood actor Rob Lowe has outraged Nfl fans by suggesting Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is retiring from the game. Lowe, 47, best known for his roles in 'St Elmo's Fire', 'The West Wing' and 'Tommy Boy', told Twitter followers that "his people" were telling him Manning was set to bow out after a glittering 14-year career.
The first tweet read. "Hearing my fave, 18 Peyton Manning will not return to Nfl. Wow", with thousands of his intrigued followers asking for his source. The tweet was followed by another, addressed to Nfl Total Access host Rich Eisen, saying, "My people are saying Manning will retire today. What do you hear?". The question only fuelled the speculation, with 'Peyton Manning retiring' quickly becoming a trending term on the micro-blogging website. In an attempt to pacify his angry followers who continued to ask for the source of his information, Lowe sent out a third tweet that read, "Colts fans, let's hope my info is wrong. Don't like being wrong, but this time... I'm hoping". A source speaking to the Los Angeles Times has suggested that Lowe's information is in fact incorrect, and Manning's father Archie told Espn, "He ain't retiring. I think he would've told me".
Speaking about the tweet on the Ellen Degeneres show, in an interview that airs today (19 January), Lowe said, "I'm a huge Peyton Manning fan..I was tweeting that I'd heard that this might be in the offing, and then I learned the power of Twitter, that's a powerful medium. I hope it's not true".
