Robert Redford is pursuing his dream of turning his Tv channel into a global phenomenon by launching the project in Turkey.

The Sting star created the Sundance Channel in his native U.S. in 1996 with the aim of promoting independent films, documentaries, and world cinema.

He has since taken it to Europe, Singapore, and the Philippines, and now he has added another country to his list by launching the channel in Turkey.

Speaking at the unveiling in Istanbul this week (beg26Nov12), Redford says, "When the Sundance Channel first started in the United States many years ago, it was my dream for the network to expand worldwide to showcase the exciting work of independent filmmakers.

"It's an honour to visit Turkey, a country known for its vibrant arts and culture, to celebrate Sundance Channel's debut. We look forward to bringing the compelling stories of filmmakers around the world to audiences here locally on Sundance Channel for many years to come."
