The Rolling Stones are expected to attend the world premiere of Crossfire Hurricane, a new documentary about the band. The film will debut on October 18,2012 at the 2012 Bfi London Film Festival, Bbc News have reported today (September 5, 2012). This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones and Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts are expected to make a special appearance at the film festival event to mark the release of the documentary, which is said to be a "comprehensive overview" of the band's history.
Fans of the Rolling Stones that are unable to attend the event at Leicester Square needn't worry: UK cinemas around the country will reportedly be screening live coverage of the premiere. The news of the film premiere comes amidst much speculation that the band are preparing to perform live, though there is not yet any confirmation of this on their official website, though their was news of a "forthcoming announcement" on August 24.
The documentary is directed by Brett Morgen and features archive footage, as well as commentary from the band members, as well former Stones members Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor. According to The Guardian, Morgen said "Crossfire Hurricane invites the audience to experience first-hand the Stones' nearly mythical journey from outsiders to rock'n'roll royalty It's an aural and visual rollercoaster ride." A total of 225 feature films will be screened at this year's Bfi London Film Festival and the Stones documentary is expected to be a highlight.
