Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood is making a foray into British TV - by starring in hit crime series THE BILL.

The PAINT IT BLACK axeman, 57, is a huge fan of the popular police drama and decided to accept a small role, after secretly visiting the set recently.

Wood - who is good friends with series regular Jeff Stewart who plays PC REG HOLLIS - has asked producers to cast him as a criminal but has yet to arrange a definite date to film.

Wildman Wood enthuses, "The Bill is one of my favourite shows and I'd love to have a bit part.

"It's a question of fitting it in with my proper job."

An insider at The Bill adds, "We were bowled over to see him on our set.

"We're coming up with a part for him."
