Roman Polanski celebrated his Best Director ACADEMY AWARD on Sunday night (23MAR03) in a luxury Paris hotel.
The Polish-born movie maker scooped his first OSCAR for The Pianist.
But he couldn't attend the star-studded ceremony because of a rape conviction in the US that means he would be arrested as soon as he stepped foot on American soil.
So Polanski and his wife Emmanuelle Seigner held their own ceremony in a $2,450 (GBP1,650)-a-night suite at the PLAZA ATHENEE near their home in the French capital.
According to US gossip site PAGESIX hotel management and fans staying at the Athenee congratulated the director - who has been nominated three times in the past, but never before won an Oscar - by sending bottles of champagne up to his suite.
