Kurt Russell has been confirmed for 'Fast and Furious 7'.

The 62-year-old actor will star in the street-racing movie, which is a follow-up to this summer's hit 'Fast & Furious 6', and is rumoured to have landed the role originally offered to Denzel Washington, although the exact character he'll be playing is yet to be announced.

Vin Diesel - who will reprise his role as ex-convict Dom Toretto in the movie - let slip the confirmation after sharing an image on Facebook of him in character with Kurt and Paul Walker on set.

He wrote: ''Kurt Russell, such an honor to work with... (sic).''

DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON will also return for the seventh movie, which will see a new director, James Wan, take the reins.

The 'Death Proof' star has joined the ever-expanding cast, which will also welcome Jason Statham and female mixed martial arts fighter Ronda Rousey to the Hollywood movie.

'The Conjuring' filmmaker recently revealed he hopes to bring ''suspense'' and other devices of the horror genre to the franchise.

He said previously: ''One of the things I would love to bring to it, having spent a lot of time in the horror/thriller/suspense genre is ... I love tension, I love suspense and hopefully I can bring that. That would be my style that I would love to bring to the 'Fast' franchise.''

'Fast & Furious 7' will hit cinemas in July 2014.
