Rooney Mara, the 25-year-old actress who most recently appeared in the OSCAR tipped movie 'The Social Network', has undergone an extreme image transformation for her role in the forthcoming crime thriller 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'. Mara was surprisingly cast for the role of 'Lisbeth Salander' ahead of established stars such as Ellen Page, Carey Mulligan and Natalie Portman.
Salander' is the computer hacker creation of the late author STIEG LARRSON, and was portrayed by Noomi Rapace in the original Swedish film. Although details of David Fincher's upcoming remake have been kept under wraps, the first photographs of Mara in character appear in February's edition of 'W Magazine'. The images show the young actress with jet black dyed hair, several facial piercings, and the all-important 'Dragon Tattoo'. In the accompanying interview the actress speaks of the worries she had about initially transforming herself for the role, saying, "I didn't even have pierced ears. They put four holes in each ear, and, weirdly, that hurt the most".
The film, which also stars Daniel Craig as the investigative journalist 'Mikael Blomqvist', began shooting in Stockholm late last year and is set to hit cinemas on 21st December 2011.
