Frank Darabont is in talks to direct a spin off to 'Snow White and the Huntsman'.

The 55-year-old director, who created hit show 'The Walking Dead', is negotiating with Universal Studios to helm a follow-up to the 2012 film, reports Deadline.

A new storyline would focus on the Huntsman character, played by 'Thor' and 'Avengers' star Chris Hemsworth.

Leading actress Kristen Stewart, who played the title role of Snow White, is not expected to return, although she could make a cameo.

Universal had planned a sequel long before 'Snow White and the Huntsman' was released, but plans were put on hold when the original director Rupert Sanders was caught having an affair with Kristen.

The first film took $400 million at the worldwide box office on a $170 million budget but received mixed reviews among critics.

Frank hasn't made a feature film since 'The Mist' in 2007, although he is renowned for 'The Shawshank Redemption' and 'The Green Mile' - both of which are critically acclaimed.

A follow-up will likely land in cinemas in 2016.
