Rush - Rush And Heart Join Donna Summer As Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees
The Last Dance hitmaker's name was released early on Monday (10Dec12), and now bosses have officially unveiled the full list, which also includes songwriter Randy Newman and blues great Albert King.
The inductees will be honoured during a special ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on 18 April (13).
In addition, record producers Quincy Jones and Lou Adler will be celebrated at the event as recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which recognises non-performers for their outstanding contributions.
Rush singer/bassist Geddy Lee admits he was overjoyed to learn of his band's induction, telling Rolling Stone, "It's a terrific honour and we'll show up smiling. It made my mum happy, so that's worth it."
While Heart star Ann Wilson confesses she thought the news was just a prank, adding, "I wasn't quite sure this was real when I got the news. We've just had this long running joke about it for so many years. But I got the text while I was at the airport and it took a little while to sink in."
And two-time Oscar winner Newman jokes he thought he would never live to see the day when he was recognised by bosses for his achievements: "I really thought maybe I'd have to die first. I didn't think it would happen if it didn't happen (already)... But this is great. I'm really glad it happened when I was still around to see it."
Among those shortlisted who missed the cut this year: rap supergroup N.W.A. and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.
