Russell Brand Has Won The Backing Of Bosses Behind Britain's Comic Relief Following His Criticism Of The Charity Initiative At A Gig Just Days After His Appearance On Their Tv Telethon.
Brand was among the stars who appeared at the London Palladium theatre on Friday (13Mar15) to take part in the organisation's live Red Nose Day broadcast, which raised millions for a variety of good causes.
However, Brand reportedly criticised the charity just days later during a stand-up gig at The Proud Archivist venue in east London, with Britain's The Sun newspaper quoting the actor/comedian as saying, "Is it right to do Comic Relief? Plus is any f**ker watching it?... Those were the questions I was asking myself as I walked out confidently on to the Palladium stage. And the answer is, 'No, not really'... Is charity part of the problem? Ultimately taking responsibility away from the centralised powers of created government, corporations, and alleviating that stress and tension by placing the burden once more on ordinary people (sic)."
However, a spokesperson for Comic Relief has now defended Brand, telling Britain's Dailymail.co.uk, "Russell Brand has been involved in Comic Relief in many brilliant ways over the years and we're enormously grateful. He was a fantastic addition to the night of telly (television) last week, and we're thrilled that he was able to give his time."
