Russell Brand insists he didn't play a part in Oasis' split and thinks the band broke up because of Noel and Liam Gallagher's combustible relationship.
Russell Brand doesn't want to be the "Yoko Ono" of Oasis.
The group's former frontman Liam Gallagher branded the comedian a bad influence on brother Noel in the wake of the band's split last year, but Russell insists his friendship with the guitarist had nothing to do with the group's demise.
Referring to John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono who was blamed for the end of The Beatles, he told Rolling Stone magazine: "Yeah, that was a bit odd. I spoke to Noel about that. Look it's not like you're in a band for years and then you start hanging out with Russell Brand and it's over - as if the two things are mutually exclusive. The only people responsible for the break-up of Oasis are in Oasis. I don't want to be the Oasis Yoko Ono without even getting to have sex with John Lennon!"
Russell and Noel are still good friends, and the 34-year-old comedian admits he based his Rock Star character Aldous Snow, who features in upcoming movie 'Get Him to the Greek', on the musician.
He explained: "In terms of being a rock star, my influences were people that I'm mates with, like Noel Gallagher for instance. From him you get that kind of nonchalance, that sense of entitlement. I once asked him,
'How come you're so mouthy and rude to everybody?' And he said that he knew that no matter what happened, if he could still play guitar he was going to go on booking gigs and making money. So it was that sort of self-assuredness that rock stars have."
Shortly after Oasis' split, Liam, 37, said: "I think Noel just wanted out. He'd had enough of this lad thing, and he wants to try something new. I just think he's sort of turned himself into a fake.
"You don't have 18 years of giving it all this, and then wash your hands of it and start going out with Russell Brand, and all these new pals."
