Kim Basinger has been added to the cast of 'The Nice Guys'.

The actress will appear in the eagerly-awaited thriller, which will also star Hollywood heavyweights Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.

Gosling, 33, plays the role of troubled private eye Holland March, who crosses paths with Jackson Healy, played by Crowe, 50.

The pair unite to help solve the case of a missing girl, which quickly develops links to an adult movie star.

As the case unravels, it transpires that the mystery is linked to people in very important positions of power in Los Angeles.

'The Leftovers' star Margaret Qualley plays the daughter of a corrupt chief justice, who looks very similar to the adult star.

Basinger, 60, plays the part of her mother, who is being paid by the criminal gang.

Matt Bomer, meanwhile, has been cast in an unspecified role, and Keith David and Beau Knapp have signed on to play the part of the villains.

Shane Black co-wrote the script for the film, which is set in the 1970s, alongside Anthony Bagarozzi.

The much-anticipated new film has been given a tentative release date of June 17, 2016.
