As the final pieces of the 'Catching Fire' jigsaw are laid in place, all eyes are on the role of Finnick Odair. Fans of the Hunger Games series are keen to discover who is going to take the coveted part. According to yesterday's report from Jeff Sneider of Variety, producers could be one step closer to revealing the answer and it looks as though that answer is Sam Claflin.

The British actor has appeared in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'Snow White and the Huntsman' but the role of Finnick Odair would undoubtedly be his biggest yet, should he settle on a deal with Lionsgate. Clafin's representative had nothing to say to Variety on the matter and nor did Lionsgate but a source confirmed that Sam is in the running for the part. The role of Finnick is widely considered to be one of the most sought after parts in the sequel to this year's Hunger Games movie. In Suzanne Collins' novel, Finnick is a former winner of one of the 'hunger games' death matches. He befriends Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and plays an important role in her life, after the games.

Melissa Leo was apparently hopeful for the role of Mags, though Variety report that that her representatives were informed on Monday (July 16, 2012) that she would not be getting the part. Meanwhile, Tony Shalhoub is thought to be in the running for the part of Beetee.
