Producers behind a biopic of soul legend Sam Cooke are on the hunt for a director after completing a script for the movie.
Writers have finished adapting a screenplay from Peter Guralnick's biography of the You Send Me hitmaker, and bosses at Abkco are now looking for a filmmaker to helm the project.
The script has been penned by renowned British screenwriting partners DICk Clement and Ian La Frenais, and Abkco chief Jody Klein is glad the project is nearing fruition.
Klein tells the Hollywood Reporter, "All of the elements have aligned themselves. We have secured rights from the Cooke family. One of the benefits of being a private company is that it enables us the appropriate amount of time to develop the script and make this happen. It will not get lost."
