Movie actress Scarlett Johansson has defended her The Island director Michael Bay, insisting his reputation for being demanding on set is largely unfounded.

The 20-year-old stars opposite Ewan McGregor in Bay's latest blockbuster, and had beforehand prepared herself to put up with being ordered around by the film-maker.

She tells British magazine Empire, "Michael has never screamed at me. If he did, I would probably scream back.

"I found Michael to be very reasonable with us. He's never made me do anything I didn't want to. He's been very thoughtful about the fact Ewan and I are not stunt people.

"He's certainly demanding of the crew. He's somebody who knows what he wants."
