Rising starlet Scarlett Johansson has leapt to the defence of her mother MELANIE, insisting the matriarch has never pushed the actress into fame as a child.

The 20-year-old actress believes her mother's judgement and knowledge of cinema history have been crucial to her career.

The Lost In Translation beauty says, "My mom's fantastic. She's seen every film ever made. She is a library of film and she has incredible taste

"She also happens to be just absolutely adorable and caring - I trust her, and she trusts me. I'm fortunate, I don't have a psycho mum pushing me into things."

Melanie Johansson, who named her daughter after Vivien Leigh's character in Gone With The Wind, is Scarlett's manager and co-produced her film A LOVE SONG FOR BOBBY LONG.
