Ultra-trendy disco outfit THE Scissor Sisters rejected pleas by BRITNEY SPEARS to work with her on new single TOXIC - because she's "too trashy".

The New York five-piece were approached by the ME AGAINST THE MUSIC star's representatives last year (03), who hoped they would transform the track into a dancefloor smash.

But the group - famed for the remixes of classic tracks such as Pink FLOYD's COMFORTABLY NUMB - claim they would rather work with British novelty act The Cheeky Girls than take on scandal-plagued Britney.

Singer ANA MATRONIC says, "Britney's about as clever as a box of hair, and she's just too trashy. We said no. We just don't take Madonna's sloppy seconds, I'm afraid.

"If we were given the choice of remixing The Cheeky Girls, we'd pick Monica and GABRIELLA every time."

Bandmate Jake Shears adds, "We love remixing other artist's music - but we've got to have some respect for them in the first place."
